tradesmen, sole traders, plasterers, builders, whatever you are, whatever you do, even electricians, this goes out to you, even our arch enemies, this bark is, this one goes out to any tradesperson that is spending a lot of money on marketing your business online, okay. Tradespeople, we don't earn our money by swivelling on some fancy office chair, ordering people around and just counting the beans, okay. The only way we earn money is through blood sweat and graft, working with ease, working with our hands, yeah. That's how we earn our money. Keeping that in mind, we have to be extremely careful and frugal with where we actually put our money when it comes to marketing our services and our local area. So, throwing money at companies that promise the earth, yall.com, checker trade, mybuilder, rated people, there's hundreds. Guys, all these companies are going to tell you that they're going to get your first page of Google. They're making that same promise to thousands of tradespeople everywhere, even in your area where you live. They'll get off the phone to you, then they'll speak to the next tradesperson who lives a couple of streets away from you and they'll tell him that they can get him first page top ranking on Google in the same area for the same search terms, for the same service. It's all total bollocks. I spoke to one of my members on the coaching group recently and he said that last year he spent £3,000 with checker trade, £3,000. And what's his return on that investment? Fuck all. Nothing. Just a handful of scrappy leads that no one else wants. We're throwing money into a bottomless pit when you're spending money with these lead generation sites that lie to us, branders as crooks. If you've just started up on your own in self-employment, if you've just started up a fostering business and you're thinking, well, how do I generate work? What do I do? How do I get customers? How do I become busy all year round? This is the best way of doing it, lads. Create your own organic marketing strategy for free. Okay. Go old school. Be reliable, professional, clean. Turn out high quality work consistently every single job you do. Make sure your customer service is on point. Make sure you polite, respectful, courteous. Make sure you pet the customer's dog. Keep their property immaculately clean when you're finished. But are you implementing all this old school work ethic into your plastering business? Doing this is going to do a lot more for you than creating an avatar, creating an illusion that you're a professional, clean, reliable, honest tradesman, which is what checker trade do. They try to create the illusion to the consumer that they have a database full of clean, reliable, honest, hard working, dependable tradespeople, and they've got them all. And the only way that the customer can access them is by going through checker trade. Okay. That's the illusion that they're creating. We all know it's total rubbish. The only people that are signed up to checker trade and all these other companies are lads that are desperate for leads, hungry for more work, and they've parted with their money. And by parting with their money, they then get the badge. Okay, you're a trusted, reliable, honest tradesperson. It's all bullshit. It's not right. Something that doesn't sit right with me about how they operate. So what do we need to do? This is how it's done. You start your plastering business, you do one job for Mrs Smith. You do that job so f***ing perfect. You communicate with her so well. You're so courteous, polite, reliable, so clean. And when you finish that job, she's so overjoyed and made up with the job that you've done that she leaves you a review online. She says, this guy is absolutely fantastic. He's over delivered. He's done more than I've expected. He's left my home immaculate. The plaster work is on point and perfect. I'm shocked at how brilliant this business is. She's so overwhelmed by what you've done that she goes and leaves you a five star review online. Okay. There's your first brick. So you lay that down as neat as you can done. Then you move on to your next brick, your next customer. You do the same again. You repeat it again. You get another brick, you lay that down. Now, if you were to do that over a period of, say, two years, you would have some seriously strong foundations in place for your plastering business online in the way of social proof. This is how you build social proof by being a good tradesperson first, instead of trying to create an illusion that you're good and honest and reliable. There's no shortcuts to success guys. To become well known in your area where you live as being a good plasterer, you have to be a good plasterer. In other words, not just good on the tools, but you have to be reliable, honest, turn up when you say you're going to turn up, heat the property clean, deliver tight communications on the lead up to the job during the job and after the job. Okay. Make sure your invoices are all as agreed, etc. Be professional. It's not that difficult to become a top rated tradesperson in your area. If you do this consistently over a period of years and you build up these organic reviews, Google will actually brand you top rated in your area. They'll brand you top rated for doing this. This is how it works. Then you can start implementing platforms like YouTube, TikTok. You can build your own website for free using platforms like Google sites or GoDaddy. You can then start to create video content around your work to showcase your knowledge and your expertise and your competency. This is how you build your plastering business from scratch, organically, one brick at a time, not trying to run before we can walk, joining up with Checker Trade and MyBuilder, bringing in a pile of shit leads that are unveted, leads that other trades people don't want. So you get them. Do it the proper way, the right way. Go old school. Stop trying to shortcut the game. Stop trying to run before you can walk, guys.
