Guys, listen, if your customers don't know you exist,
then how are you going to generate work?
How are you going to feed your families?
How are you going to pay for that holiday?
How are you going to pay for them van payments?
So it's all good as wanting to go self-employed.
It's a worthy goal.
It's great that we can go and finance a new van
and put our name on the side of it.
It's great that we can go and buy brand new Raffina tools
and Neela tools and the DeWalt cordless mixer.
But where's all the jobs that are we going to go and do
and use these tools and generate profit
and pay for a nice lifestyle for ourselves?
Because if we put all our focus on becoming really, really good on the tools
and turning out high-quality work, which is really important as a plasterer,
of course it's important,
but if we put all of our focus on just tool porn
and using all these different materials
and trying to build our experience up,
which again is necessary and vital to become a good plasterer.
But if we do all that and we neglect the sales and marketing side of it,
then we're always going to be dependent and reliant on my builder,
check of trade or other builders.
Nothing wrong with working for builders,
but if you're trapped in a cycle of working for low-value builders
that are always messing you around,
their jobs are never ready,
they're not paying you particularly decent money,
you're not happy doing it,
then I would suggest build your own brand up,
your own authority in a local area,
start promoting yourself,
self-promotion online using these free platforms.
And I've not just jumped on here with the hard sell
to come and join my mentoring group.
I've told you about the mentoring group now for a long time.

But guys, listen, if not my group,
go and get buddied up with somebody
who's further down the road than you are right now
in your self-employment journey,
that's got the battle scars and that's got the reputation
and it's getting work coming in,
that knows what to do and they've got a system
to help you generate work and generate leads
that doesn't involve paying 300 and 400 pounds per month
to my builder and check of trade, okay?
I've got one lad on my mentoring group now.
He's paying 350 pounds per month.
This is a contract that he's tied into.
350 pounds a month.
I think it's to check a trade to generate him job leads
and the job leads that are coming in
aren't even anything special
and he's still being pitched against other local plasterers.
So it's a race to the bottom, guys.
So if you don't want to join my group,
you don't want me to help you for whatever reason,
you know, you don't like boldies,
whatever it is,
then there's other lads out there
that are doing these mentoring programs, okay?
Kurt Johnstone's a good lad.
He's got a mentoring group that he's put together
and there's others.
So look, and I believe his is an excellent value
for money as well.
So look, if you don't want to join my group,
then find somebody that you like,
you're seeing that he's getting results
and you want similar results,
go and buddy up with them
and if they're offering you help
at like a pound a day or 80p a day,
then snatch their hands off.
That's what I would have hoped to have
when I was learning my trade
and when I was learning,
you know, when I was doing my apprenticeship
because I was treated like shit
by the lads that taught me,
if I'm completely honest.
And luckily I did find one guy,
Steve,
that sort of took me under his wing
and he trained me
and showed me how to become a good plasterer
and he taught me right.
But in today's climate,
for a young lad to get in with a plasterer,
it's extremely difficult,
extremely difficult.
